Shuoyang Zheng (Jasper) (he/him) is a PhD student at the Centre for Digital Music (C4DM), funded by the UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in AI and Music. His works explore AI systems through their convergence with media and arts, primarily focusing on the development of neural audio synthesis tools, and on the understanding of how these technological advances interact with artistic practices.
Previously, Jasper got a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Liverpool. He is equally interested in the aesthetical and ethical implications inherent to machine intelligence. Therefore he spent a year at the Creative Computing Institute, University of the Arts London, to pursue an MSc in Creative Computing. He has been an Associate Lecturer at UAL Creative Computing Institute, leading the Mathematics and Statistics for Data Science unit, co-teaching the Exploring Machine Intelligence unit.
During the 2020 lockdown, he wrote songs and produced tracks under the name "Alaska Winter". As an interdisciplinary artist-researcher, his works have been exhibited in venues such as Sónar+D Festival, IRCAM Forum, and various academic conferences.
