Manipulated Network: quirks and oddities from corrupted generative models

I’ve come across plenty of quirks and oddities generated from corrupted models. These models produce impossible, distorted but realistic images, diverted from the original outputs and sometimes lead to aesthetic preoccupations.

About

Jan, 2025

Shuoyang Jasper Zheng (he/him) is a PhD student at the Centre for Digital Music (C4DM), funded by the UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in AI and Music. His works explore AI systems through their convergence with media and arts, primarily focusing on the development of interactive and understandable sound synthesis tools that facilitate musical creations and expressions, and on the understanding of how these technological advances impact artistic practices.

Previously, Jasper got a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Liverpool. Besides technological perspectives, he is equally interested in the aesthetical and ethical implications inherent to the development of AI. Therefore, he spent a year at the Creative Computing Institute, University of the Arts London, to pursue an MSc in Creative Computing, and wrote his thesis on real-time interface for human-AI interaction. He has been an Associate Lecturer at UAL Creative Computing Institute, leading the Mathematics and Statistics for Data Science unit, co-teaching the Exploring Machine Intelligence unit.

During the 2020 lockdown, he wrote songs and produced tracks under the name "Alaska Winter".
